Then, it’s time to refine your paddling while keeping your mileage up, with lots of paddling at paddleboard marathon pace.” What Connor is doing, is 180 degrees of difference he has reversed the pyramid most paddleboard marathoners have traditionally thought of for designing their training schedules.

I’ve been stepping up my training schedule recently and seeing what the runners had to say and comparing it to some of the trends in paddleboarding. Culpepper who prepared for the U.S. Olympic Trials, prepared in a very similar way, here’s what he had to say about it ”The benefit of this approach is that you get your body as fit as you can first, then you get as efficient as you can, “he also goes on to say “In the three weeks before the race, it’s hard to get much fitter–you make only small improvements–but you can get your body used to working within a certain zone that improves how efficiently your body burns fuel in the race.”

Straight up, David MartinExercise physiologist David Martin, Ph.D., gives an awesome metaphor for this “This approach makes you very strong, so that a submaximal effort like marathon pace feels easy. Think about when you shake a weightlifter’s hand. It hurts like hell to you, but because he’s so strong from harder efforts, he doesn’t realize how much force he’s using.”

To implement this approach at an upcoming paddleboard marathon, check out the following 12-week schedule Connor Baxter developed in consultation with his team of trainers in Hawaii. It’s exactly the sort of training program used successfully by top names in marathon running, and will produce the results you need to win wether you’re a beginner or expert you’ll be able to take something away from this.

Today I have 1 exercise that will change the way you paddleboard forever and an interesting interview with Starboard Pro Team Rider Nikki Gregg.

Somewhere in between paddleboarding rapids and managing her paddleboard fitness boot camps Starboard-Margareta caught up with Nikki Gregg at her home in Oregon. Nikki out of Nikki’s training program she had 1 amazing and simple exercise that has changed the way she have paddled ever since she taught Margareta!

Nikki said just paddling alone is enough for her, when she can get out there with friends, it’s doesn’t feel like a work out it’s just fun and exercise is just another benefit of it. For her working out on the board is about getting outdoors and reconnecting with nature getting outside getting fresh air and relieving the stress.

Will people in general just don’t get outside enough anymore with thier busy schedules. So first, we focus on correcting the common health problems of a busy lifestyle by working on proper paddling techniques that starts correcting these imbalances. If you aren’t paddling correctly you are setting yourself up for a lot of problems in the future.

It’s a super simple and effective exercise that will strengthen your core and help you activate all the big muscles from your abdominal and back.

This Exercise: Will strengthen your core and lower back, two areas of the body often recruited by your abdominals and back to support you while paddling. This is the common cure for poor posture and horrible office chairs. Get out on the water and find a spot to lay face down on your paddleboard. Then pop up onto your elbows and toes.

Hold this isometric pose static for beginners 10-15 seconds and if your feeling strong take up to multiple minutes.

Today I have 1 exercise that will change the way you paddleboard forever and an interesting interview with Starboard Pro Team Rider Nikki Gregg.

The little known surf town of Cherating on the South China Sea coast of Malaysia will play host to its first ever Billabong Occy Grom Comp in January of 2010. In a major coup for the Asian surf scene, 1999 World Champion of Surfing Mark ‘Occy’ Occhilupo will bring his specialized Grommet event to the ridiculously long sand bottom point break, attracting the best young surfers in the region. After two successful years of running the Occy Grom Comp in Bali alongside the Billabong Pro Junior events, the 2010 competitors will be heading to the 1.6km long Malaysian point break to help the local juniors gain some higher level experience.

The real kicker to the event is its coupling with the Billabong Pro Am, also in Cherating, that is 100% supported by the States Tourism Board. “Tourism Pahang (MTPN) proudly supports the 2010 Billabong Cherating Pro-Am and Occy Grom Comp, and have demonstrated our faith in the future of Malaysian surfing by promoting the Pro-Am to the status of biggest event on the Tourism Pahang State Calendar”, explained Mr Haji Idros, Director of MTPN (Pahang Tourism Action Council). The Billabong Pro Am Cherating and the Billabong Occy Grom Comp will run from January 7th to January 10th 2010 and entries for Mens Open, Womens Open, Masters, Bodyboard, and of course the Grom Comp can be found in all Billabong SE Asia stores from November 2009. for more info, please log into www.Billabong.com
